Developers should think of themselves first and foremost as designers responsible for creating environments that shape human interaction for decades. That responsibility should be grounded in design, planning, and economic principles that establish the framework for creative and innovative thinking that generates opportunities and ultimately builds projects that contribute to the common good.
Recognizing the challenges posed by the marketplace, climate change, and the social impact of the built environment, students will re-examine the definition of highest and best use to develop a holistic vision of development that balances financial, environmental, and social responsibilities. Students will explore fundamental principles and procedures for responsible real estate development to envision, design, plan, and execute development projects from concept formation, site selection, team identification, market analysis to construction and asset management.
